The Lighthouse opened its doors in 2010 led by our Head Chef Jon; We started as a small team, with little experience in the 'industry', and no specific style, our only aim from day one was to offer our best version of passionate cookery and service. Now over six years in, we believe we have stumbled upon a dining style that makes us stand out in the local area. Whilst being out in the sticks every day, we couldn't help but notice the fantastic woodland produce, livestock and vegetation growing at the surrounding farms and land nearby; this then became what we based our experience on. No gimmicks, no flash-in-the-pan ideas, just great ingredients. We felt the best way to do this was to create a list of dishes celebrating the best food around us that month, and let them shine.
Our kitchen team is led by us, (Jon and George.) Believe it or not The Lighthouse was our first stab at running a restaurant. We’ve had no fancy training or anything like that, so our style is entirely our own. If we had to describe our food, we'd call our dishes seasonal with a focus on flavour, and modern techniques; but most of all, enjoyment- or something cliche' like that. We're not just putting peas on a plate and calling it spring. Our lengthy sequence of around 10 dishes each offer something unique- be it nostalgia, intrigue or just powerful flavour. A lot of thought has been put into the whole experience and we therefore only offer our tasting menu: No value menu, no speedy grub, no compromise.
George and I have also both won Derbyshire's Chef of the year award for 2016 and 2017, and we are currently Derbyshire Restaurant of the year 2018, which was great news! We also feature in The Michelin, Good Food and Harden's guides and currently stand at number 1 for fine dining restaurants in the East Midlands on tripadvisor ahead of over 8000 other Restaurants.
